I am grateful that I am a Christian. I am so blessed to be an American. I pray that my children will love God as much as I do. I could lose everything, but if they are Christ-followers that is all that really matters to me.

Where do we go from here? It seems that there are times in life that things are not clear. What is the direction I need to go? Is there more than living and dying and trying to make it through another day (to quote a Steven Curtis Chapman lyric). I wonder if there are others that are thinking the same thing. I pray against complacency. God please lead me and take me where you want me to go. I left all to follow you. I dropped security for Your will. Help me to see clearly what you want. Above all, make me hungry for your bread. Let me desire You above all. Let that be the thing that draws others to Your side.

mountain climbing!

We had a great time climbing last weekend. We had a service of communion and we focused on the work of the cross and what Christ did for us on Calvary. Here are a few pics of the time together.

More thoughts...

I am aware that few read this blog. So, I am simply writing my thoughts here for me.

I am a caring person that is in many difficult situations. There are those that have turned their backs on me. They have done so becuase they felt I hurt them.

The kind of person that I am is one that loves unity and hates division. I do not like being the bad guy. Sometimes however, we are called to stand for truth. It will divide relationships sometimes. I hate that.

I have endured several tough things of late. Many that I cannot even share, or will I ever share to anyone. Within the last several months, I have been accused of things that are untrue and I have been forced to endure many things as a pastor and leader. Anyone that thinks that this job is a fun one is mistaken.

I have learned over this last year that I cannot please everyone. My ultimate aim should be to please the One. He is my judge and final authority. I rest in His hands and leave the results in His time.

Their are hurts right now that I endure. I have lost things lately that mean the world to me. I cannot say what they are, but I long for the day when I recieve them back.

I just wish that someone would come alongside me and try to shoulder some of these burdens that I carry. I have been carrying such burdens and very few see it because I am good at doing the right thing. It reminds me of an old Twila Paris song called, The Warrior is a Child..."they don't know that I go running home when I fall down, they don't know who picks me up when no one is around...I drop my sword and cry for just awhile...cause deep inside this armor, the warrior is a child."

My back is in bad shape. I injured it last week. I see people and they turn their faces from me. They shun me and love those that are closest to me. Ironically, they are the ones that I stood beside and prayed with when many despised them and they had few friends.

It is bound to get better...I cannot sit still and wait. I must be on the move. It is a great time to be alive. It doesn't mean that pain is fun, but I know that I am growing closer and more like Christ in the meantime.

How come God doesn't hear me?... and other contemplations...

Why doesn't God answer my prayers? Where is He in my life?

I was sitting with a gentleman the other night and we were talking about how we get so busy that we forget to seek God. We do say our daily prayers and we do all of the Christian duties but....I think what we need is more passion when it comes to seeking Christ. We are thankful for the salvation that He gave us, but we get complacent in our walking and obeying Him. Could it be that the reason that God is not answering us is that we are not really seeking His heart? Just maybe???

God, may I shirk off the complacency and business so I can passionately seek, follow and obey you.

May we forgive, love and practice the Gospel in the world today. The Gospel is the good news of salvation from sin, deliverance from the punishment, and empowerment to walk in a manner that pleases the Father.

I implore you to be people of the cross. Leave your bitter hearts and grudges against others at the foot of the cross. These are burdens that God wants off of our backs and in the deepest sea. We can not be examples of love, peace and mercy while we hold things against our brothers and sisters.

God is a good God! Thank you for saving me. Thank you for knowing my weaknesses but still you love me! What an awesome God we serve!

Steve

Thoughts

It's been awhile since I wrote. Here are some thoughts:

Friends...how many do we really have? Isn't it really about acquaintances? Deep friends are hard to come by. We struggle becuase we want that deep relationship with someone, but it seldom comes.

A true friend will tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear.

Sometimes, I feel that the works that I do matter, but even people like me need to hear that
it is appreciated sometimes.

I don't do it for the praise, but I sometimes need to know if what I do matters.

House Update

Here are some more pics. This summer has been fun. I feel that I have grown more spiritually this summer. Sometimes, we go through rough times that makes us feel down. I have really fallen in love with the Word of God this summer. It has been refreshing to re-read the Psalms and Proverbs. When I was growing up, we read those everday and started over every month at the beginning. I got so familiar with them that they lost their meaning in my life. It has been good to put the past aside and focus on the future of what God wants to show me.

School has started and I am trying to get ready for the challenges that will face me. I sometimes wish that God would listen to my heart and agree with me on what the future holds. Do you ever do that? However, there is nothing more awesome than seeing God's will done. I am trying to learn patience. It is sometimes hard, but God is still good even when I don't see the good.

I am praying for all my friends. I know that God is powerful. I will try to update this site more often.

Steve

Cheney still alive...the left says...

It really saddens me to hear that the vice-president was threatened the way he was yesterday. Associated Press reporters at the scene said that they had seen the bodies of at least 12 people, and that they had been carried in black body bags and wooden coffins from near the base into a market area where hundreds of Afghans had gathered to mourn.
A Taliban spokesperson has claimed responsibility, saying the intended target was in fact Cheney. The bomber never got near Cheney.
Maj. William Mitchell said it did not appear the explosion was intended as a threat to the vice president. "He wasn't near the site of the explosion," Mitchell said. "He was safely within the base at the time of the explosion."
However, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, a purported Taliban spokesman, said Cheney was the target of the attack.
"We knew that Dick Cheney would be staying inside the base," Ahmadi told AP telephone from an undisclosed location. "The attacker was trying to reach Cheney."
Whatever your partisan leanings, an attack planned on the Vice President of the United States is an attack on America.
Some of our fellow Americans, however, can't put their sneering hatred of the White House aside.
The Huffington Post headlines the story this way--with sneer quotes:
The very first comment at HuffPo that set tone:

Here are some comments:
You might have to save and then expand to see the text. The other 23 hours should be in solitary confinement so he will have time to think about the death and destruction he’s created.
…
Good point (13+ / 0-)I want him to rot in jail not die in a way that could in any way be construed as bravery, honor or decency.

More from the Democratic Underground. And more.

Update

It has been a long time since my last post, and I wanted to update those that care of my status.

I am now teaching 22 hours this semester. Cowley had a teacher resign and so it has been a mad scramble to attempt to get all the classes covered so that no snags are hit. Needless to say, it has brought some added stress on my life.

I am so proud of my family. God has blessed me with so much, and I am very grateful. My wife is such a blessing to me. She always believes in me, and she trusts that I have the families best interest at heart. I could not do what I do without her. She recently began working for a Income tax preparer in the evenings, and she is also leading our churches preschool. She is a hard worker and great christian example of love to me.

The kids are doing great, and Zane is amazing me at the piano. At 4, Zane is already picking tunes out on the piano. He will surpass me I hope, and maybe he can take care of me when I am older!

All the kids are doing great, and I love them with all my heart. WE are praying about when to build our new house. There are so many things to consider when building. I trust that God will give us the wisdom that we need to accomplish this before Lakynn and Jordan get to college!

Pray for us!

Steve

Red Storm Rising

What a weekend this was...

Our MAYB team played this weekend. Our first game was a lopsided win 40-7 over a Winfield team that Page had agreed to coach to help the kids get better at Basketball. So, we took our time and took it easy on that game. It was hard for Page to be the head coach of both teams. I took over REd Storm while Page did the other team.

Our next game we lost by 8 to the eventual champions. Today, we lost by 15 to an 8th grade team from Wichita.

Our last game today was against Winfield 8th graders. We did great. We ended up losing 46-43, but the guys were playing against people that were simply too tall. Still, we hung in there and had a chance to win at the end. My son, Jordan had 5 three pointers this afternoon. I was one proud dad! HE is growing up to be a great young man and is learning to listen better to the coaches.

Our team is made up of 3 Winfield kids, 4 Ark City kids, and one kid from Oxford who will join after his middle school season is over. The best part of this deal is that Jordan gets to play with his two cousins from Winfield on this team. It has definitely brought us closer together as a family.

It is a blast...I wish that I could have done this type of thing when I was a kid. I don't think that Jordan and the rest of these kids know how fortunate they are to be able to do this.

Steve

God! Where are you?

I don't know if anyone even reads this stuff anymore, but I need to air some things out. Sometimes we feel that God is out of this world...literally. God...where are you? Things are spinning out of control in this world. We have so many wars and fightings going on. Iraqi's kill each other simply because of sectarian strife and envy. The Sunnis feel left out of the political process and the Shiites are taking revenge for decades of oppression that they were dealt while the mad tyrant was in power.

It just seems that God is out of this world...Then I remember that God is in control...That lasts for a little...

But God, now Nancy Pelosi is running the congress. The Liberals have regained their majority from 12 years ago. Embryonic stem cell research and abortion will now go in the direction that is destructive of life. Many things that God calls sin and wrong are now going to be preached at us as the norm.

It just seems that God is out of this world...Then I remember that God is in control...That lasts for a little...

But God, what about the sins that so easily beset us all...lust, covetousness, pride and envy to name a few...where are you on these? Why don't you take away all the temptation and sin that we can access anytime day or night? Everytime we turn on the tv there are images that cause us to think differently from what you would have us focus on. I don't see much in this world that is true, lovely or of good report....

It just seems that God is out of this world...Then I remember that God is in control...That lasts for a little...

Hmmm...just some thoughts that I have been wrestling with.

God, I know that you are here within me. I trust in that. I believe that. Please don't give up on us humans. As Christians, we want to know you desperately. Reveal yourself to us in the now. Don't stand afar off. Do miracles, even the ones that we cannot see. But, at the perfect time show us Your miracles. We long to know you in the now. I can't wait to see You!

Thank You God for forgiveness and love. It is called, "Children of the Light." It is different from other Christmas works that I have been a part of in that it tries to deal with the Christmas story as an event that changed the course of history. It also shows why the birth of Christ was necessary. Our sin and deviation from the plan of God is why Christ came. He came to reconcile us to God. What a great story and unbelieveable love that Christ showed the whole world.

The presentation is this Sunday evening at 6:30 at First Baptist Church.

If you want to be blessed by the Christmas story, please come and see the glory of the Lord!

Steve

Travel time!

Well,

I am on my way tomorrow morning to lead worship in Colorado. I then met with the praise team who will be leading the music tomorrow when I am gone with the Cowley Choir to First Methodist in Wichita.

I then coached Lakynn's team, and we won 21-16. That was exciting. I took Lakynn to Stillwater so that she could help her Great Aunt Dena at a craft fair. I came back and then went to a wedding. I have been working on my thesis in my spare time. Pretty busy, but it is rewarding to be busy.

I have been amazed at what God is teaching me. I need to be more aware that I am a stranger and an alien in this world. I cannot allow myself to become too attached to the things that are on this planet. If I do, I will certainly succumb to depression and failure.

Steve

F-150 Truck Trouble

You know what really

stinks? Yeah...car trouble. Even worse...truck trouble. Today, I was planning to go to Winfield to work on the recording studio with Page, and I went to start the truck and it would not even turn over. Exasperating to say the least.

I went to try to get the battery off, and I did not have the right tools for that. So, I went to Wal Mart and bought what I needed. I then came back and took off the battery. I then returned to Wal-Mart to test the battery, which they said was bad. I then went back and placed the battery in the truck, fully expecting to hear the engine roar to life in utmost glory. Uh...nothing happened. So, it wasn't the battery. Ben Whitener showed up at the church and began a 4-5 hour time of dedication to the cause of helping an ignorant man. We could not get the starter off. We are not quite sure what is wrong, but even Page could not get it figured out. We towed my truck down to the college to see if they have some answers. We will see.

Not too discouraged yet. We shall wait and see what the bad news is.

Steve

Stayin' Busy

Last night, our little girls team did great in basketball. It is going pretty good. Lots of work still needed to polish it up.

Still trying to get time to work on my thesis. It is taking a lot of time, and it takes precision. I have lacked support and even when I tried to get it, many turned their backs on me. So, my Christmas musical has lacked the support that I asked for. Big deal, right? Well, then came the conversation that I overheard this past week that involved those that discredit my ministry. (I won't go into details here)

So, Satan has been attempting to win the victory in my life; get me discouraged and disheartened from completing the work that I have been called to do at FBC and Cowley.

Are you ready? Today, I get word on the phone that there are rumors that I am involved in things that I should not be involved in as far as a relationship goes. I don't know how much to say, but it is very hurtful and the ones that are spreading this lie are those that seek my harm. At least these are not people from my church doing this to me. I am grateful for that.

Anyway, after I got the heads up from a very dear friend who shall remain nameless for his sake, I told my wife what was going on and the false accusations that have surfaced. She is very supportive and I thank God for that.

The reason that I am sharing this is that I just need to air this out. No details will be given. No names will be listed. That is not the point. The main things is that when we are fighting that fight, we must remember that our enemy is the satanic system that we seek to destroy.

The two individuals that are spreading this rumor are well known to have tried to destroy others if they don't support them, so I don't feel too bad.

Pray that I can love them.

Thank you God for giving the man that called me the courage to do so. I treasure the friendship that I have with him.

God bless you all, and keep working for the kingdom. It seems that this is a common occurence lately. Is there some way to not get tired? If you know a solution, let me know.

Well, this morning I worked on arranging a worship chorus that I wrote for choir. I then prepared for a wedding. I then left for the wedding. (play by play) I arrived at the Barns at Timber Creek in Winfield and hauled the sound system to a perfect setting for a wedding. It was beautiful, but a lot of work. We got everything set up, and it seemed to go well. I sang It is well, and I hope you dance. After the wedding, I drove to Augusta and played with Page at the park there. We sang from 7-8:15. It was a good night. There was a rockin band from Lincoln Nebraska before us and they did a great job.

All in all, a very satisfying day, but I need sleep. We got two services in the morning and an afternoon concert at 1:30 at Maranatha Worship Center in Wichita tomorrow.

God bless,

Steve

My friend in jail

Wow. A few sunday evenings ago, I was sitting in my office after church and the phone rang. It was about 8:00 in the evening and I really was not interested in answering the phone. But, the Holy Spirit made me! I am so glad that I was obedient to His call. On the phone was some voice asking if I would accept a collect call from a penitentiary. Well, I knew of a guy that used to go to our church and I accepted the call.

This guy says, "Hey, what's going on?" "I'm like, uh....uh...not much...who is this?"

He says, "This is Michael"

I still did not know who he was. Anyway, it was a wrong number. He dialed a totally different number and our churches number was called. This turned out to be a "God thing."

We had a great conversation, and I was able to help him with encouragement.

He has already written me a letter, and he has shared with his Bible Study group in the prison what God did. He also dreamed that I shared his story in front of a church. Last Sunday, I told the church in Ponca City about the man and the wrong number! Wow! Is not God a God of confirmation?

I just got out of choir and he called me again and we talked about Christ and what purpose he had for Michaels wrong number.

If this is not proof of God's providence, I don't know what is.

Keep Michael in your prayers.

Steve

Preaching at Harvest Church

Well,
I preached today and led worship in Ponca City, Oklahoma. It was a great time, and I think that the people were uplifted. Several asked when I was going to move there! Well, at least it is nice to be thanked every once-in-a-while.

I then came home and watched a little football, but I am not really into it that much.

I did get gas in Newkirk for 1.98. Man, it is sad that we are glad to pay that much, but it is better than 3.10 a gallon!

Well, I hope you have a great day in the Lord~

Steve

Light in the Darkness

Well...to all of my youth group that checks this page, I want you to know that I care about your souls deeply. I was doing good until my son called and woke me up. As much as I want to see him soon, I was half asleep trying to talk to him. Anyway, I feel bad for not being excited to talk to him. I guess that basketball practice went ok tonight.

Usually, Martin Rude comes with me to Florida, but this time I am by myself. I have only been gone since Tuesday night and I feel that I am so disconnected right now.

I wish that I knew how to simply go to sleep. You sure can't turn on late night tv unless you want to see movies that will suck the spiritual life right out of you. I think late night tv is guilty in making this society fall short of God's ideal. I will admit that it is tempting to watch. So, since I don't want any more crap in my mind, I am writing to you guys and dolls.
Pray that tomorrow I can stay focused on my Thesis project. I plan to go shopping for some gifts for the fam back home, and then maybe go out to dinner with some of my classmates tomorrow evening. I will leave Sunday morning to return home to Kansas. On the way, I plan to stop and see Haley 1 in Fort Worth, and maybe stop and see another worship leader from Dallas as well that day.

I also plan to go to Gladewater Texas and stop and see my sister and niece's grave. They were killed by a train in 1993. I have not been back there since.

My love to all of you. Pray for me. I need it.

My classmates from the Institute for Worship Studies

Here are some of my classmates: Iva Tsang, Jon Swanson, Rowena and Yours truly!

Jordan is the man!!!

If I could sum up Jordan, it would be that he loves Jesus and others.
